SENATOR PETER NWAOBOSHI SUBMITS REPORT OF SCREENING OF NDDC BOARD NOMINEES AS SENATE CONFIRMS NEW BOARD

Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (PDP, Delta North) today, presented the reports of the screening of nominees into the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the Nigerian Senate.

Senator Nwaoboshi, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs made the presentation today at the floor of the Nigerian Senate after successfully screening nominees into the board of the intervention agency transmitted to the Senate by president Muhammadu Buhari.

Following the presentation of the report by the Committee through its chairman, the Senate confirmed the nominees of the board and members.

Those confirmed are: Dr Pius Odubu (Edo State) Chairman; Mr Bernard Okumagba (Delta) Managing Director; Engr Otobong Ndem (Akwa Ibom) Executive Director, Projects; Mr Maxwell Oko (Bayelsa) Executive Director (Finance & Admin); Prophet Jones Erue (Delta) Delta Rep; Chief Victor Ekhator (Edo) Edo Rep; Mr Nwogu N. Nwogu (Abia) Abia Rep; Mr Theodore A. Allison (Bayelsa) Bayelsa Rep; Mr Victor Antai (Akwa Ibom) Akwa Ibom Rep; Mr Maurice Effiwatt (Cross River) Cross River Rep; Mr Olugbenga Edema (Ondo) Ondo Rep; Hon Uchegbu C Kyrian (Imo) Imo Rep; Aisha Murtala Muhammed (Kano) North-West Rep; Shuaibu Ado Zubairu (Adamawa) North-East Rep; Amb Abdullahi M Bage (Nasarawa) North-central Rep.

However, the Senate rejected the nomination of Dr Joy Yimebe Nunieh, who is the current managing  director of interim  management board of the agency from Rivers State following her inability to present herself for screening by the Committee.

In the same vein, the Senate President Dr Ahmad Lawan charged the new board and members to take over the affairs of the agency immediately as the law setting up the NDDC does not recognize any interim arrangement once a board is in place.
