Delta State Government is in high spirits to complete five major road projects, aggregating to 20.651 Km, before July, the peak of rainy season.
Some of the projects are the construction of DDPA Housing Estate roads (Phase Three), construction of adjoining roads around Queen Street Agbor and the recon¬struction of Alihame/Agbor-Nta/Oki road in Ika-South Local Government Area. Others include the rehabilitation of Convent Street and the construction of Efeizomor road (from Owa-Ekei/Owa-Alero to Old Abraka road in Ika North-East Local Government Area.
Briefing newsmen during the project tour yesterday, the Commissioner for Works, Chief James Aguoye, expressed optimism that the projects would be concluded and commissioned before the rainy season reached its peak in July. While commending the contractors for displaying high levels of commitment, the commissioner appealed to them to increase pace of work to achieve completion before the heavy rains. ‘’I am satisfied with the level of work in all the places visited and I have no doubt that the contractors will deliver the projects according to specification and in line with the timeline given to them. Fielding questions from newsmen concerning the status of a soil testing laboratory for the state, the commissioner hoped that the facility would be completed before end of the year. With the exception of Convent Street which the commissioner said was awarded earlier than the rest, all others are at various levels of completion. ‘’We have started the process of getting our laboratory at the premises of Ministry of Works and once we are done with it, we will no longer have to move to University of Benin (UNIBEN) to test our materials. We pray that before end of the year, the project should be completed because we have acquired the materials’’ the commissioner said.
