Social Media Influencer and former Spokesperson to Ex President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokiri has said that he is waiting to see the foolish nation or bank that will lend President Muhammadu Buhari's government the 7 billion dollars it wants to borrow. Mr. Omokiri made this statement today on his verified Twitter handle.
According to him, only a fool will lend to a government that spends almost 1 billion naira daily feeding school children who are at their homes.
Mr. Omokiri lamented that in 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, Nigeria's foreign debt was 7 billion dollars but today the country owes 30 billion dollars.
Some Nigerians have expressed worry over the rate at which the present government takes foreign loans. Some have asked how the country can repay all this loans which may make it a perpetual debtor to foreign nations.
Already President Buhari has explained to Nigerians that the foreign loans are necessary in order to improve the infrastructure of Nigeria so as to grow the economy.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed has also said that Nigeria's debt to GDP is Ok, therefore the country can afford to borrow.
