Gov. Okowa Commended For His Passion And Commitment To Education

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has been commended for his commitment, passion and unflinching support for the education sector in the state.

The commendation was given by the Secretary, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), Sir Byron Unini, during the commissioning of Quality Assurance Monitoring Vehicle, Motorcycles and distribution of 2018 Instructional Materials at Asaba.

Sir Unini, disclosed that, "Delta State government was able to meet all the conditions through the understanding and intervention of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa," adding that "Gov. Okowa's commitment, passion and unflinching support for education sector guaranteed the prompt and up to date payment of the State's Counterpart fund which hitherto was un-accessed since 2012."

He said that, in an effort to improve the quality of education nationwide, the management of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) recently approved 2% of State Universal Basic Education Boards intervention funds for quality assurance in the states. This he noted, "is with a view of promoting effective and efficient monitoring mechanism across schools by State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

"In keeping with the mandate of the Universal Basic Education Commission's road-map on Quality Assurance for 2015-2020, one (1) 18 seater Bus and twenty -five (25) Motorcycles have been procured while furnishing of the Quality Assurance Department with basic office equipment for e-monitoring and supervision is on-going."

According to SUBEB secretary, "the Universal Basic Education Commission also procured various instructional materials for Primary and Junior Secondary Schools across the state using 2018 fund, with the aim of enhancing effective teaching and learning in the state. Aside making learning effective and interesting, such instructional materials as textbooks, Science and Mathematical Kits, library resource materials also serve as reference materials."

Sir Byron pointed out that, "the Bus and motorcycles are strictly meant for quality assurance purposes in the State and would not be used for private purposes," adding that, "the Instructional materials being distributed today will get to the end users to fulfill the purpose for which they were procured."

He reminded that, "this is the first assignment for the Quality Assurance Department. It is our expectation that the Department will henceforth deliver credible QA Reports to the State Government."

He called on all stakeholders to join the state government in promoting basic education delivery in Delta State as according to him, "Education for all is the responsibility of all".
